Galileo’s Fingertips

Blackened lips
And yellow skies
The crashing edge
One small goodbye
Galileo’s fingertips
Washing, scrubbing
Porcelain sinks
Glue which could not hold together
The black that dripped
But could not tether

Flicker lights
Demanding eyes
Only a kiss would say goodbye
He shook his head
He wouldn’t let
Me take
Away my life

I shook my head
Oh, I would get
That kiss of his
Despite
The consequence
Of blackened lips
Of lives unraveling
Lonely ellipse

The crawling black
Reached up to tack
His life upon the death board
He fell and died
Limp, I cried
His life would be no more

It was then the black assaulted
My own fingertips
With shaking hands
I dashed through sands
The waves as salty sips

Yellow skies
Yellow dies
Yellow everywhere to see
But yet I had no glasses
To take off and see the sea

Friends, family
Acquainted foe
Gathered for my last day
And here I took Galileo
Each in every word

I would not kiss each one of them
We could only wave
I would not do to them
What with my life I’d thrown away
